For as long as I can remember I've wanted to be a writer.
Failing that I'd have settled for a job on Blue Peter as the person who really makes the here's-one-I-made-earlier stuff.
It took ten years, two children and one life-altering event to make me seize the day and embark on a career as a freelance journalist and copywriter. (And no, I'm not going to tell you what happened, unless you're going to commission me to write about it for a princely sum.)
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in English and Drama in 1998, and spent the next seven years in two in-house Marketing & PR roles developing quite a shoe habit and attending glitzy media parties. In 2004 I gained an MA (with Distinction) in Public Communication and PR from the University of Westminster. I taught undergraduate students on the BA Media Studies programmes at the University of Westminster and University of East London between 2004 and 2006, and went self employed as a freelance writer in 2008.
Since then I've written for a wide range of national newspapers and magazines including the Daily Mail, the Independent, The Times, The Guardian, Grazia, Saga, The Lady, Prima Baby, Practical Parenting, Pregnancy & Birth and Modern Mum. I also write for the web and have contributed features for sites such as PlayPennies, Literary Mama and So Feminine. I'm a Mums Rock blogger and write weekly topical blog posts and content for Haute Mama.
I gave up the bright lights of London in 2007 and now live in a beautiful spot on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, an hour from Belfast, with my husband, our two sons and one wayward cat.
These days, should Blue Peter try to woo me with the double-sided sticky tape, I'd have to let them down gently. I have the job of my dreams, and I'm told that infuses my copy with a touch of magic.
I love shoes, Mojitos and reading in hammocks, and I probably need rehab for my vanilla latte habit.
I've written a novel, but am too chicken to do anything with it...
